Day 8 27/6/19 Dusseldorf (Solingen) to Etten-Leur, Netherlands.

Day 8 27/6/19 Dusseldorf (Solingen) to Etten-Leur, Netherlands.

Much cooler today, temperature in the high 20’s, almost perfect.

We decided to take a side trip for a couple of days and go into Holland on the way to Cuxhaven.

Maritta can't resist a good window box

The route took as roughly West towards the coast, passing Duisberg (crossing the Rhine), Verlo and Eindhoven before reaching our accommodation for the next few days in Etten-Leur. Most of the trip was on the motorway and there was a lot of roadworks, it was still a pleasant drive although passing trucks whilst keeping an eye out for cars approaching at speed from the rear does keep you on your toes. Even at the speed limit, holding up a faster car is frowned upon (illegal on the Autobahn) and no-one even considers passing on the right (inside lane). Trucks use the inside lane in Germany (very big fines for breaking the rules) and it was quite noticeable once we crossed into Netherlands that the rules where different, although still no-one consider passing on the inside. They can be quite intimidating from the rear if you are going to slow, speed limit was 120-130Kmh on most divided roads, unlimited on some in Germany (and they make the most of it). Even at the 130Kmh speed limit you could find yourself being to slow for some, and they let you know, you have to watch the rear nearly as much as forward.

Huge number of truck parking along the highway

Bridge across the Rhine near Duisberg, Germany

Entering Holland

A huge number of trucks on the highway

Were a long way from the coast and the GPS is reading 11M below sea level (not the best way to measure elevation but its usually fairly close)

Entering Etten-Leur, Netherlands

Leafy streets

Interesting sculpture
Accommodation is small (very small) but cute and has a private courtyard area with a spa.

Accommodation is small but neat and very cosy

Spa in the courtyard helps
