Day 43 1/8/19 Manchester to Royston, near Canterbury)
Left Claire and Norman for a day today to travel to Royston
(near Melbourn {no “E”} of all places) near Canterbury.
Most of the photo’s will therefore be of sights along the
road. The trip took about 4 hours, including a stop for lunch. There where
quite a few roadworks along the way so this made the trip a bit slower but the
traffic wasn’t to bad.
As we had plenty of time, we wanted to avoid Tolls, so our
route took us via the M6, the A500, the A50, M1 and then the A14. To collect Richard
Tonkin’s TA14, Maud.
Then we went back along the A14 to the M11, traffic was
terrible but Maud handled it without a qualm, and A11 to our accommodation.

The journey went from the traffic above to the relaxed swan in this shot |
Maud is a 1948 TA14 bodied by Arthur Mead, a rather interesting vehicle.
Due to the shortage of materials after the War, Arthur Mead came across
a number, 10 I think, of Tickford bodies built for MG before the war
but not used. He purchased these and adapted them to the TA14 chassis.
This gives the car a unique prewar appearance with post war running
gear. The car is a delight to drive and very well behaved. Will report
more over the next few days.
