Day 37 26/7/19 West Wales to North Wales.
Today we move to North Wales to catch up with Norman and Claire
and attend the AOC Northern Section event at the North Wales Classic Car Show
at Bodrhyddan Hall, Rhuddlan. We did have an RAF jet fly over almost low enough to touch but the cameraman was to slow to catch it.

Steam train we travelled on a few days ago, this one with two loco's |

Some standing stones we passed |

Somewhere on the west coast |

Forest growth is changing |

 |
Lots of granite and slate still apparent |

A very impressive wall near Caernarfon |
We had plenty of time so we took a leisurely route via
Caernarfon and Conwy to our lodging, a Castle Tower at Arbergele.
This was a good idea until we found the traffic heading into
Caernarfon, which was incredible, it turns out traffic all over North Wales was
terrible due to it being the beginning of school holidays. Anyway, eventually
found somewhere to park, 5 pound whether you stayed for 10m minutes or all day.
Caernarfon was a walled city, although now far outgrown the original wall and
also has a very large castle, Roman Ruins and several other interesting things
to visit, not enough time today so we will have to come back. After a quick
lunch we continued on our way.

Part of Caernarfon city wall |
 |
Gulls are enormous, this one about 12-14 inches tall. |

City wall exit |
 |
Swing bridge |
 |
Interesting derelict boat in centre of photo (beside white tent) |
 |
Another tunnel through the castle walls |
 |
Colourfull flats near the castle |
The next interesting site we Saw as the castle to Conwy,
another walled city, however parking proved impossible so we drove around
through the walls and continued on.
The road here travels along the coast via several tunnels
and is quite an interesting drive.
 |
Motorway tunnel near Conwyn (its one way, the double lines are to stop you changing lanes) |
 |
Limestone is starting to appear in the geology |
 |
Conwy Castle |
 |
Conwy Castle swing bridge |
 |
Conwy is another walled city |
From Conwy we set out to find our lodging, a tower which
looks like it might have once been a side entrance to Gwrych Castle, the main
entrance to the castle now leads to a golf course.
Took us a few attempts to find it as the entrance is via an
archway through the tall wall that edges the A road. The 60MPH speed limit
makes entering and leaving the tower very exciting.
 |
Our "Castle for the ext three days |
 |
Tower from the outside, getting in and out (especially out), can be hazardous |
 |
View from the footbridge Near our Tower. |
 |
House of the owners of our Tower. |
 |
And one of their cats |
 |
Some of the plants are quite nasty, this one attached me and itched for ages |
 |

Norman negotiates the Tower Arch carefully |
