Day 28 17/7/19 Gower Peninsula, South Wales (Renoldston)
A day of castles today, or the remains of them at least.
This is an "A" road, I think that's because there aren't any B&C roads |
Hedges get a bit close sometimes |
Someone appears to be living here |
Another "A" road |
First stop, Oxwich Castle. Although the majority of the
castle is from the 16th century, some parts of it may be as far back
as medieval times. It has little or no fortification and was built more to
impress the owners peers.
Ruins of Oxwich Castle |
Staircase is a bit scary |
Maritta tries some Victorian clothes |
Castle was enormous when first built, 6 stories |
Appears to be a private walled garden |
Slightly larger A road |
Worm head near Rhossili |
Beach near Rhossili, those ants are actually people |
OOPS, He's bigger than us |
Second castle, Weobley. This was built by the de la Bere
family around 1306 and again shows no signs of fortification.
Weobley Castle |
View of the salt marshes from the castle |
From here we took a short drive to Mumbles on the coast and
caught a glimpse of the Oystermouth Castle. Was to busy to park.
Even smaller A road |
Bay in Mumbles |
Oystermouth Castle |
On the way back we visited the Birds of Prey (and archery
although we didn’t try that) exhibition at Perriswood.
Eagle Owl, weighs about 2Kg |
Huge on Maritta's Arm |
Barn Owl chick |
Bustard |
Harris Hawke, he was recruited to keep gulls and pidgeon's of the yachts during the London Olympic Games |
Peregrine Falcon |
Flies at about 90MPH so photographing it is hit and miss |
Falcon enjoys its meal after all the work of catching it. |
Light misty rain falling on the way back |
I'm really enjoying following your travels.
